FROM THE PASTOR'S DESK
You were buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through faith in the power of God, who raised him from the dead.
— Colossians 2:12
t some point in our lives we are confronted by life's fundamental questions: "What is our purpose in this life? Is there really a God?" St. Augustine summed it up best when he said that our hearts are restless until they rest in God. When I was 15, I met a Marist Brother named Robert Warren, who invited me to consider becoming a religious brother. That kind of commitment - giving one's whole life over to the service of God and neighbor - cannot be done unless someone is secure in their faith. At the age of 15, I certainly was not! With that invitation from Brother Bob, however, I began praying for faith, for a revelation from God of some sort. If God truly exists, wouldn't God want to communicate His presence to us? When I accidentally came upon the scripture that is part of today's Gospel from the eleventh chapter of Luke, "ask and you will receive; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you . . .", I decided that my stumbling across that scripture was not a coincidence but something deeper, and I then took the leap of faith. If we sincerely ask, seek and knock through prayer we will find an answer to our deepest questions in life. Life has meaning when we realize we are all children of "Our Father who is in heaven". In this prayer that Jesus taught us, let us continue to ask that God's will be done in our lives so we may be part of realizing God's kingdom on earth.

A reminder: We have five holydays in the United States:
Mary Mother of God: January 1st
Both the Immaculate Conception and Nativity of Jesus ALWAYS ARE HOLYDAYS OF OBLIGATION, regardless on what day they fall. The other three, when they are on either a Saturday or a Monday, the obligation is abrogated. Those of us who recall having six holydays which included the Ascension know that the TX bishops have moved this solemnity to the 7th Sunday of Easter. Questions, call Fr. Dennis.
